years ago. The original ENIAC was about 80 feet long,
weighed 30 tons, and had 17,000 tubes. By comparison,
a desktop computer today can store a million times more
information than an ENIAC, and 50,000 times faster.
* From the smallest microprocessor to the biggest mainframe,
the average American depends on over 264 computers per
day.
* The first "modern" computer (i.e., general-purpose
and program-controlled) was built in 1941 by Konrad
Zuse. Since there was a war going on, he applied to
the German government for funding to build his machines
for military use, but was turned down because the Germans
did not expect the war to last beyond Christmas.
* The computer was launched in 1943; more than 100 years
after Charles Babbage designed the first programmable
device. Babbage dropped his idea after he couldn't raise
capital for it. In 1998, the Science Museum in London,
UK, built a working replica of the Babbage machine,
using the materials and work methods available at Babbage's
time. It worked just as Babbage had intended.

500 years before lens grinding became an art in the
West.
Glass :
If hot water is suddenly poured into a glass that glass
is more apt to break if it is thick than if it is thin.
This is why test tubes are made of thin glass.
Hard Hats :
Construction workers hard hats were first invented and
used in the building of the Hoover Dam in 1933.
Hoover Dam :
The Hoover Dam was built to last 2,000 years. The concrete

Limelight :
Limelight was how we lit the stage before electricity
was invented. Basically, illumination was produced by
heating blocks of lime until they glowed.
Mobile (Cellular) Phones :
As much as 80% of microwaves from mobile phones are
absorbed by your head.
Nuclear Power L :
Nuclear ships are basically steamships and driven by
steam turbines. The reactor just develops heat to boil
the water.
Oil :
The amount of oil that is used worldwide in one year
is doubling every ten years. If that rate of increase
continues and if the world were nothing but oil, all
the oil would be used up in 400 years.
Radio Waves :
Radio waves travel so much faster than sound waves that
a broadcast voice can be heard sooner 18,000 km away
than in the back of the room in which it originated.
Rickshaw :

Honesty is still the best policy!! |
Once a general manager wanted to test his people who had
come from all over India, about their values of life.
He announced that in their seminar folder, there is
PVC pouch and in it there is a seed. When they return,
they must put it in a good soil in a pot and look after
it very well.
He would hold a competition in the next year's seminar
and that the best plants would be awarded suitably.
Everyone did what was told to him. A year passed quickly.
And next year in a big hall, there were hundreds of
pots and a great variety of plants-a great scene. Except
one pot in which the soil was there and no plant! The
owner was standing quietly and seemingly ashamed of
himself!
The general manager called him on the stage. He asked
him what happened and he told him the truth. He planted
the seed which he was given and did that was
to be done- but nothing happened!
The general manager declared him the winner! Everyone
was shocked. It was announced, "Gentlemen! The
seeds I gave you were boiled seeds. You planted them
and nothing happened! You acted smartly and used some
other seeds. This man was honest to his work and, therefore
he did not cheat me or himself!" |
Lunch with God |
| 'A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip
to where God lived. Ao he packed his suitcase with a
bag of potato chips and a six-pack of root beer and
started his journey.
When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old
woman. She was sitting in the park, just staring at
some pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened
his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his
root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked
hungry, so he offered her some chips. She gratefully
accepted it and smiled at him.
Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see
it again, so he offered her a root beer. Again, she
smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat.
There all afternoon eating and smiling, but they
never said a word.
As twilight approached, the boy realized how tired
he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone
more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back
to the old woman, and gave her a hug. She gave him
her biggest smile ever.
When the boy opened the door to his own house a short
time later, his mother was surprised by the look of
joy on his face. She asked him, 'What did you do today
that made you so happy?'
He replied, 'I had lunch with God.' But before his
mother could respond, he added, 'You know what? She's
got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!'
Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy,
returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look
of peace on her face and he asked, 'Mother, what did
you do today that made you so happy?' She replied!
'I ate potato chips in the park with God.' However,
before her son responded, she added, 'You know, he's
much younger than I expected.'
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,
a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment,
or the smallest act of caring, all of.
Which have the potential to turn a life around. People
come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime!
Embrace all equally!'

Interesting One (Hearing Aid) |
| A man feared his
wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought, she
might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her,
he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor
told him there is a simple informal test, the husband could
perform to give the Doctor, a better idea about her hearing
loss.
'Here's what you do,' said the Doctor,' stand about 40 feet
away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone,
see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet,
and so on until you get a response'
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen, cooking dinner,
and he was in the den. He says to himself, 'I'm about 40 feet
away, let's see what happens'
Then in a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?'
No response.
So, the husband moves to closer to the kitchen, about 30
feet from his wife and repeats, 'Honey, what's for dinner?'
Still no response.
Next, he moves into the dining room where he is about 20
feet from his wife and asks, 'Honey, what's for dinner?' Again
he gets no response.
So, he walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away.
'Honey, what's for dinner?' Again there is no response.
So, he walks right up behind her. 'Honey, what's for dinner?'
'James, for the FIFTH time I've said, CHICKEN!'
Moral :
Sometimes, the problem may not be with the other one as we
always think, could be, very much within us..! Lets look within
ourselves before we find fault with others...

and gave an introduction about the talents the chick possessed.
The chick immediately lost all her power, started quacking
like a normal chick, ran amidst the crowd and was lost. Tina
became the laughing stock of her school. She lost her best

boy visiting his grandparents on their farm.
He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods.
He Practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target.
Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As
he was walking back he saw grandma's pet duck.
Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck
square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved.
In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to
see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said
nothing.
After lunch the next day grandma said, 'Sally, let's wash
the Dishes. 'But Sally said, 'gGrandma, Johnny told me he
wanted to help in the kitchen.' Then she whispered to him,
'Remember the duck?' So Johnny did the dishes.
Later that day, grandpa asked if the children wanted to go
fishing and grandma said, 'I'm sorry but I need Sally to help
make supper.'
Sally just smiled and said,' Well that's all right because
Johnny told me he wanted to help.' She whispered again, 'Remember
the duck?' So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.
After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's,
he finally couldn't stand it any longer. He came to Grandma
and confessed that he had killed the duck.
Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, 'Sweetheart,
I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the
whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was
just wondering how long You would let Sally make a slave of
you.'

Intelligent Animal |
| THE DONKEY
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal
cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out
what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth
it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him.
They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the
well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and
cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down
the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel
of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something
amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top
of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty
soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the
edge of the well and happily trotted off!
MORAL : Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of
dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it
off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone.
We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy :
1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.
3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less

Love unconditionally |
My wife called,
'How long will you be poring over that newspaper?
Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?'
I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene.
My only daughter Sindu looked frightened.
Tears were welling up in her eyes. In front of her was a bowl
filled to its brim with Curd Rice.
Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age. She has
just turned eight.
She particularly detested Curd Rice. My mother and my wife are
orthodox,
and believe firmly in the 'cooling effects' of Curd Rice! I
cleared my throat,
and picked up the bowl. 'Sindu, darling, why don't you take
a few mouthfuls of this Curd Rice? Just for Dad's sake, dear.
And, if you don't,
your Mom will shout at me I could sense my wife's scowl
behind my back.
Sindu softened a bit, and wiped her tears with the back of her
hands.
'OK, Dad. I will eat - not just a few mouthfuls, but the whole
lot of this.
But, you should...' Sindu hesitated.
'Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever
I ask for?'
'Oh sure, darling'.
'Promise ?'
'Promise'
I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with
mine,
and clinched the deal. 'Ask Mom also to give a similar promise',
my daughter insisted. My wife slapped her hand on Sindu's,
muttering 'Promise', without any emotion.
Now I became a bit anxious. 'Sindu dear,
you shouldnt insist on getting a computer or any such
expensive items.
Dad does not have that
kind of money right now. OK?'
'No, Dad. I do not want anything expensive.
Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity.
I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing
my child eat something that she detested.
After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes
wide with expectation.
All our attention was on her.
'Dad, I want to have my head shaved off, this Sunday!' was
her demand.
'Atrocious!' shouted my wife, 'A girl child having her head
shaved off?
Impossible!'
'Never in our family!' my mother rasped.
'She has been watching too much of television.
Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!'
'Sindu darling, why don't you ask for something else?
We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.'
'No, Dad. I do not want anything else', Sindu said with finality.
'Please, Sindu, why dont you try to understand our
feelings?' I tried to plead with her.
'Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd
Rice'. Sindu was in tears.
'And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for.
Now, you are going back on your words.
Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra,
and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter
what?'
It was time for me to call the shots. 'Our promise must be
kept.'
'Are you out your mind?' chorused my mother and wife.
'No. If we go back on our promises, she will never learn
to honor her own.
Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.'
With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her
eyes looked big and beautiful.
On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school.
It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards
her classroom.
She turned around and waved.
I waved back with a smile.
Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted, 'Sinduja,
please wait for me!'
What struck me was the hairless head of that boy.
'May be, that is the in-stuff', I thought.
'Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!'
Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car,
and continued, That boy who is walking along with your
daughter is my son Harish.
He is suffering from... ... leukemia.' She paused to muffle
her sobs.
'Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the
last month.
He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy.
He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional
but cruel
teasing of the schoolmates.'
Sinduja visited him last week, and promised him that she
will take care of the teasing issue.
But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair
for the sake of my son!
Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul
as your daughter.'
I stood transfixed. And then, I wept.
'My little Angel, you are teaching me how self-less real love
is!'
*The happiest people on this planet are not those who live
on
their own terms but are those who change their terms for the
ones whom they love...

When Lizard can... |
| WHEN A LIZARD
CAN, WHY CAN'T WE?
This is a true story that happened in Japan. In order to
renovate the
house, someone in Japan breaks open the wall. Japanese houses
normally have a hollow space
between the wooden walls. When tearing down the walls, he
found that there was a lizard
stuck there because a nail from outside hammered into one
of its feet. He sees this,
feels pity, and at the same time curious, as when he checked
the nail, it was nailed 10 years
ago when the house was! first built.
What happened?
The lizard has survived in such position for 10 years! In
a dark wall
partition for 10 years without moving, it is impossible and
mind-boggling. Then he wondered how
this lizard survived for 10 years! without moving a single
step--since its foot was
nailed!
So he stopped his work and observed the lizard, what it has
been doing, and
what and how it has been eating. Later, not knowing from
where it came, appears
another lizard, with food in its mouth. Ah! He was stunned
and touched deeply. For the
lizard that was stuck by nail, another lizard has been feeding
it for the past 10 years...
Imagine? it has been doing that untiringly for 10 long years,
without
giving up hope on its partner.
Think, will u do that to your partner?
Think that will you do it to your Mom,
Who brought you after a big struggle of Nine long months
?
Or at least to your Dad, Friends, Co-workers, brothers and
Sisters?
Imagine what a small creature can do that a creature blessed
with a
brilliant mind can't.
As information and communication technology advances, our
access to
information
becomes faster and faster. But the distance between human
beings . . .
is it getting
closer as well?
Please never abandon your loved ones
Never Say U R Busy When They Really Need You ...
You May Have The Entire World At Your Feet.....
But You Might Be The Only World To Them....
A Moment of negligence might break the very heart
which loves you thru all odds..
Before you say something just remember..
It takes a moment to Break but an entire life to make...
To Live Use Heart And to survive use brains .
Then Life would be a paradise Unfurling only love joy and
happiness... . |
A touching story |
| A boy was born
to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a Loving
couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was
around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine
bottle open.
He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle
and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the
kitchen totally forgot the matter.
The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated
by its colour and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous
medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child
collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he
died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face
her husband.
When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the
dead child ,he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.
QUESTIONS :
1. What were the five words?
2. What is the implication of this story?
Scroll down...
ANSWER : The husband just said ' I am with you Darling'
The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive
behaviour. The child is dead. He can never be brought back
to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother.
Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away,
this would not have happened.
No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child.
What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy
from the husband.
That is what he gave her.
If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective,
there would be much fewer problems in the world.
MORAL OF THE STORY
Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom
to blame,in the relationship, but by this way we miss out some
warmth that is needed... some things are not merely to blame..Remember
always that life is not that easy to understand as it seems...Never
try to apply your logic to understand every situation...Let
life enjoy its own complexity..You are just a small part of
dis whole complicated universe...always try to be happy.

Foot Prints |
| One night a man
had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with
the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each
scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged
to him and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked
back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times
along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest
times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about
it: 'LORD, you said, that once I decided to follow you, you'd
walk with me all the way,. But I have noticed that during
the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set
of footprints. I dont understand why when I need you most,
you would leave me.'
The LORD replied, ' My precious child, I love you and I would
never leave you, During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that
I carried you.'

The Washerman and the Foolish Donkey |
There was once a washerman who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson. The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly. Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.
Moral of the story " One must not engage in duties other than his own"
Now take a new look at the same story…
The washerman ( J) was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet. The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a "meets requirement" . Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around. The donkey was rated as " star performer". The donkey had to live up to his
already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation…

Bhagavatgeeta |
An old Farmer lived on a farm in the mountains with his young grandson.
Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his
Bhagavat Geeta. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate
him in every way he could.
One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa! I try to read the Bhagavat Geeta just
like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as
soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bhagavat Geeta do?"
The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied,
"Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of
water."
The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got
back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You'll have to move
a little faster next time," and sent him back to the river with the basket
to try again.
This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he
returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was
impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.
The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water.
You're just not trying hard enough," and he went out the door to watch the
boy try again.
At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his
grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak
out before he got back to the house.
The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached
his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, "See
Grandpa, it's useless!"
"So you think it is useless?" The old man said, "Look at the basket."
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the
basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket
and was now clean, inside and out.
"Son, that's what happens when you read the Bhagavat Geeta. You might not
understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be
changed, inside and out. That is the work of Krishna in our lives." |
Different Way - A nice story |
Different Way - A nice story
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held
up a sign which said:
" I am blind, please help ." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them
into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words.
He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the
blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how
things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one
who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a
different way."
What he had written was: " Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it. "
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign
simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so
lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign
was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be
innovative. Think differently and positively. |

Relationship |
A boy and a girl were playing together. The boy had a collection of
marbles. The girl had some sweets with her. The boy told the girl that
he will give her all his marbles in exchange for her sweets. The girl
agreed.
The boy kept the biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave
the rest to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had
promised.
That night, the girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldn't sleep as
he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from him the way
he had hidden his best marble.
Moral of the story: If you don't give your hundred percent in a
relationship, you'll always keep doubting if the other person has
given his/her hundred percent.. This is applicable for any
relationship like love, friendship, employer-employee relationship
etc., Give your hundred percent to everything you do and sleep
peacefully. |
