A Short Story (Moral Story)
Many years ago in a small Indian village, a farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful daughter. So he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgot the farmer's debt if he could marry his daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let providence decide the matter.

He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag. If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need

not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field.
As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag. Now, imagine you were standing in the field. What would you have done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what

would you have told her? Careful analysis would produce three
possibilities:

1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.
2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag and
expose the money-lender as a cheat.
3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order to
save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

Take a moment to ponder over the story. The above story is used with the hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral and logical thinking. The girl's dilemma cannot be solved with traditional logical thinking. Think of the consequences if she chooses the above logical answers.

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble.
Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

"Oh, how clumsy of me," she said. "But never mind, if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked."

Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into an extremely advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Most complex problems do have a simple solution. It is only that we don't attempt to think.

A jobless man applied for the position of "Office Boy" at Microsoft.

The HR manager interviewed him, then a test: clean the floor.
"You Are engaged" he said, give me your E-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill, as well as when you will start.

The man replied, " I don't have a computer, neither an email"

I'm sorry, said the HR manager, if you don't have an email, which means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job.

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only 10 US$ in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10 Kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door-to-door round. In less than two hours, He succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the operation three times, and returned home with 60 US$. The man realized that he can survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late. Thus, his money doubles or triples every day. Shortly later, he bought a cart, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. 5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US. He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance. He called an insurance broker, and chooses a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email.

The man replied, "I don't have an email ". The broker answered
curiously, "you don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?" The man thought for a while and replied, " Yes, I'd be an office boy at Microsoft!"

Moral of the story:
M1- Internet is not the solution to your life.
M2- If you don't have Internet, and work hard, you can be a Millionaire still.
M3- Since you received this message by email, you are closer to being an office boy, rather than a millionaire... Have a great day,

Concept of Work Culture
Read till end if you can...

One evening a Swamiji of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt was addressing the participants on the concept of work culture. One of the participants asked the following question to the Swamiji:

"I am a senior manager of Materials Department and I joined an organization 25 years ago as an Engineer Trainee and over the last 25 years I have gone through every experience in the organization and I am now the senior manager looking after the material function independently.

During the initial part of my career, the job was very challenging and interesting. Every day was exciting and I looked forward to each day with lot of interest. However, all those exciting days are gone since I do not find my joy any more interesting because there is nothing new in my job. As I have seen and handled every conceivable situation there is no more challenges in my work. I am now feeling bored because I am doing a routine job.

However, Swamiji, I am living in the same house for over forty years, I am the son for the same parents for over forty five years, I am the father for the same children for the past ten years and the husband for the same lady for the past twenty years.

In these personal roles I do not feel bored and the passage of time has not taken away the zeal from me. Please tell me why I am bored of the routine in the office and not in the house?"

This was a very interesting question and we were all very anxious and curious to know what the Swamiji had to say !!

The response from him was very interesting and convincing. He asked the executive the question:

"Please tell me for whom does your Mother cook ?"

The executive replied that obviously the mother cooks for others.

Then the Swamiji said that the mother "Serves" others and because of this service mindedness, she is not feeling tired or bored. But in an office, we "Work" and not "Serve". Anything we consider, as service will not make us feel bored. That is difference between Serving and Working.

He asked the executive to consider his work as service and not merely a work !! This was a very interesting analysis !! Whenever you put a larger context around your work and see a broader meaning for your work, you will take interest in your work. An awareness of larger purpose of your job and an appreciation of its importance will make a very big difference in your
internal energy. You should believe that you are here for a purpose and should believe in the spiritual context of your role. Attitude Matters !!!

If you think you are working for the organization you will get frustrated.

If you feel you are doing a service and gettting some service charges you
will feel happy.

It is just a paradigm shift that is required.

Quit

One day I decided to quit...I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with GOD.
"GOD", I said.
"Can you give me one good reason not to quit?" His answer surprised me...

"Look around", GOD said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The
fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo." GOD said.

"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.

In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo see. I would not quit." GOD said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." GOD said to me.

"Did you know, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?"

"I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you."

"Don't compare yourself to others." GOD said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make
the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come", GOD said to me. "You will rise high"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" GOD asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned

"Yes." GOD said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope these words can help you see that GOD will never give up on you. GOD will never give up on you

The Perfect Boss

There were about 70 scientists working on avery hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm.

His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today "

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM. Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. He looked for his boss, He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home.

Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there.His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines.

The situation was explosive, any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry. The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, i too will have but what about Children ??"

Wife replied "You don't know ??

Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition "

What had really happened was .... The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM.
He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition.

So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it everytime. But once it is done, loyalty is established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss eventhough the stress was tremendous.
By the way , can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was ????????

A Very Nice Conversation
An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem
science has with God, the Almighty. He asks one of his new students
to stand and.....

PROF: So you believe in God?
STUDENT : Absolutely, sir.

PROF: Is God good?
STUDENT : Sure.

PROF: Is God all-powerful?
STUDENT : Yes.

PROF: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal
him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God
didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
(Student is silent.)

PROF: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God
good?
STUDENT : Yes.

PROF : Is Satan good?
STUDENT : No.

PROF : Where does Satan come from?
STUDENT : From...God...

PROF : That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
STUDENT : Yes.

PROF : Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
STUDENT : Yes.

PROF : So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)

PROF : Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these
terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
STUDENT : Yes, sir.

PROF: So, who created them?
(St! udent has no answer.)

PROF: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe
the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
STUDENT : No, sir.

PROF: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
STUDENT : No, sir.

PROF: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God?
Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter? STUDENT : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

PROF: Yet you still believe in Him?
STUDENT : Yes.

PROF: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol,
science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
STUDENT : Nothing. I only have my faith.

PROF: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
STUDENT : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

PROF: Yes.
STUDENT : And is there such a thing as cold?

PROF: Yes.
STUDENT : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

STUDENT : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat,
mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have
anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no
heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing
as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat.
We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of
heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

STUDENT : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as
darkness?
PROF : Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

STUDENT : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of
something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light,
flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have
nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness
isn't. If it were you would be able ! to make darkness darker, wouldn't
you?

PROF: So what is the point you are making, young man?
STUDENT : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

PROF: Flawed? Can you explain how?
STUDENT : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue
there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You
are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can
measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity
and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully
understood either one.To view death as the opposite of life is to be
ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.
Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.

Now tell me, Professor.Do you teach your students that they evolved
from a monkey?

PROF: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes,
of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution! with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize
where the argument is going.)

STUDENT : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at
work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor,
are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a
preacher? (The class is in uproar.)

STUDENT : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the
Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)

brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable,
demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain,sir.

Formula 1 cars speed....etc..

01. An F1 car is made up of 80,000 components, if it were assembled
99.9% correctly, it would still start the race with 80 things wrong!

02. Formula 1 cars have over a kilometre of cable, linked to about
100 sensors and actuators which monitor and control many parts of
the car.

03. An F1 car can go from 0 to 160 kph AND back to 0 in FOUR seconds!!!!!!!

04. F1 car engines last only for about 2 hours of racing mostly
before blowing up on the other hand we expect our engines to last us
for a decent 20yrs on an average and they quite faithfully
DO....thats the extent to which the engines r pushed to perform.

05. When an F1 driver hits the brakes on his car he experiences
retardation or deceleration comparable to a regular car driving
through a BRICK wall at 300kmph !!!

06. An average F1 driver looses about 4kgs of weight after just one
race due to the prolonged exposure to high G forces and temperatures
for little over an hour (Yeah thats right!!!)

07. At 550kg a F1 car is less than half the weight of a Mini.

08. In an F1 car the engine typically revs upto 18000 rpm,(the
piston travelling up and down 300 times a second!!) wheres cars like
the palio, maruti 800,indica rev only upto 6000 rpm at max. Thats 3
times slower.

09. The brake discs in an F1 car have an operating temperature of
approx 1000 degees Centigrade and they attain that temp while
braking before almost every turn...that is why they r not made of steel

but of carbon fibre which is much more harder and resistant to wear

and tear and most of all has a higher melting point.

10. If a water hose were to blow off, the complete cooling system
would empty in just over a second.

11. Gear cogs or ratios are used only for one race, and are replaced
regularly to prevent failure, as they are subjected to very high
degrees of stress.

12. The fit in the cockpit is so tight that the steering wheel must
be removed for the driver to get in or out of the car. A small latch
behind the wheel releases it from the column. Levers or paddles for
changing gear are located on the back of the wheel. So no gearstick!

The clutch levers are also on the steering wheel, located below the gear paddles.

13. To give you an idea of just how important aerodynamic design and
added downforce can be, small planes can take off at slower speeds
than F1 cars travel on the track.

14. Without aerodynamic downforce, high-performance racing cars have
sufficient power to produce wheel spin and loss of control at 160
kph. They usually race at over 300 kph.

1 5. The amount of aerodynamic downforce produced by the front and
rear wings and the car underbody is amazing. Once the car is
travelling over 160 kph, an F1 car can generate enough downforce

to equal it's own weight. That means it could actually hold itself to the

CEILING of a tunnel and drive UPSIDE down!

16. In a street course race like the monaco grand prix, the
downforce provides enough suction to lift manhole covers. Before the
race all of the manhole covers on the streets have to be welded down
to prevent this from happening!

17. The refuelers used in F1 can supply 12 litres of fuel per
second. This means it would take just 4 seconds to fill the tank of
an average 50 litre family car.They use the same refueling rigs

used on US military helicopters today.

18. TOP F1 pit crews can refuel and change tyres in around 3
seconds. & 8 sec to read above point.

19. Race car tyres don't have air in them like normal car tyres.
Most racing tyres have nitrogen in the tyres because nitrogen has a
more consistent pressure compared to normal air.

Air typically contains varying amounts of water vapour in it,

which affects its expansion and contraction as a function of

temperature, making the tyre pressure unpredictable.

20. During the race the tyres lose weight! Each tyre loses about 0.5
kg in weight due to wear.

21. Normal tyres last 60 000 - 100 000 km. Racing tyres are designed
to last 90 - 120 km (That's Khandala and back).

22. A dry-weather F1 tyre reaches peak operating performance (best
grip) when tread temperature is between 900C and 1200C.

(Water boils boils at 100C remember) At top speed, F1 tyres rotate 50 times a second.

So Formula Driving is not piece of cake, DEAR!!!
